Millennial Sex- Is Sex Even That Important to Us?

Are Millennials Having Too Much Sex?

A lot of us millennials are known for being sex positive, sexually explorative, and sometimes just loose. The generation before us thinks we are just out here fucking, but is that really true?

When I think about how many times someone older has given me the "up-down" for a clothing choice or for PDA with my boyfriend, I can't help but laugh. I know that I've been pegged as "one of those girls", but what does that even mean? And how much weight does that even hold.

Millennials Are Actually Kind of Conservative Around Sex

I personally am not checking on other people's vaginas and penises. Live your best life -'kay!  But that is what the CDC is here for. It turns out, in certain communities, our parents were fucking more than we were before getting married.  For females and males (as defined by the CDC) that were not married, the percent of them who have been sexually active has declined from the late eighties to now. With black and hispanic men, the percentage has dropped from the low sixties/high fifties to the high fifties/mid forties. With black and hispanic women, the amount of percentage has dropped from mid fifties- to mid forties.   Translation - our elders were thottin' and boppin' more than us!

So, if what the media is suggesting is not quite on track with how we feel, then, how do we feel? An older article from The Atlantic, notes that in 2015, 37%  of Americans from 18-35 believed that sex without the intent of a relationship was morally wrong. The study also mentioned hat 71% or those asked still believed in the value of marriage.

So are we hoes or nah?

This is a toughie to answer. Not only because it is such a ridiculous question but also because.... well not its only because it is a ridiculous question to answer. Choice (and the understanding that we all have a prerogative to choice as long as it does not endanger others) is becoming more of a reality for more women and men. When choice is not respected, movements like #MeToo is here to support. Birth rates have been declining but transparency on sexuality and sexual choices are on the rise.

The FUQS

  • Everything is NOT always as it seems. And just because something is less talked about does not mean it is not true.

  • As the times change, so do the conversations. Sex should be a more open conversation, more for honestly and learning and less for judgement.

  • Do you booboo, because odd's are your grandparents did too!
